About the team
The Beaches team is part of the Community Facilities and Open Space Asset Planning and Management business unit in the City of Gold Coast’s Infrastructure Lifecycle, Planning and Performance department. The team’s focus is on managing coastal hazards and providing clean, healthy and accessible beaches for the community. We are a high performing team of enthusiastic and innovative Coastal Engineers and Officers. As an inclusive team with a range of perspectives and opinions we are always open to new ideas and ways we can enhance the Gold Coast way of life through coastal management. A highly connected and social team who put community outcomes first and have fun doing it.
About the role
The Coastal Engineer is responsible for leading the scientific, analytical and modelling program that underpins all coastal engineering decision-making within the Open Spaces - Beaches Team.
The role develops and delivers coastal data, monitoring, research coordination and analysis programs to achieve coastal resilience, mitigate erosion risks, and maintain beach amenity targets. It provides the evidence base for strategy, capital planning, operations and policy development, ensuring all coastal programs are supported by robust, contemporary engineering and science.
We’re looking for people who have:
- C Class Drivers Licence (Mandatory)
- Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Environmental Science, Civil / Coastal Engineering or Mathematics or equivalent knowledge and experience
- Demonstrated experience in coast process analysis, forecasting, and reporting
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
